Abstract:

Objective To translate and revise the Artificial Intelligence Anxiety Scale(AIAS) into Chinese and test its reliability and validity among nursing students,so as to provide a valid tool for assessing the level of anxiety towards artificial intelligence among nursing students. Methods The English version AIAS was forward-translated and back-translated following the Brislin translation model. After adaptation and a pilot survey, the Chinese version of the AIAS was developed. From December 2025 to February 2026,a convenience sampling method was adopted to recruit 656 nursing students from four undergraduate colleges in Henan Province as participants. They were assessed using a general demographic questionnaire and the Chinese version of the AIAS and 50 students were randomly invited for retest two weeks after the first survey to evaluate the scale’s reliability and validity. Results The Chinese version of the AIAS consists of four dimensions, namely learning anxiety, job replacement anxiety, sociotechnical blindness anxiety, and artificial intelligence configuration anxiety, with a total of 21 items. The scale-level content validity index(S-CVI) was 0.952,and the item-level content validity index(I-CVI) ranged from 0.833 to 1.000. Exploratory factor analysis extracted four common factors, which accounted for 67.457% of the cumulative variance. Confirmatory factor analysis indicated a good model fit(χ2/df=1.106,CFI=0.994,TLI=0.993,RMSEA=0.019,SRMR=0.022). The Cronbach’s α coefficient of the overall scale was 0.769,and the Cronbach’s α coefficients for each dimension ranged from 0.836 to 0.911. The test-retest reliability coefficient was 0.878. Conclusion The Chinese version of AIAS demonstrates satisfactory reliability and validity. It can serve as an effective assessment tool for measuring the level of artificial intelligence anxiety among nursing students in China.
