    2016, 13 (1):  7-11.  doi: 10.3761/j.issn.1672-9234.2016.01.001
Objective To apply the unfolding case based learning in nursing education and evaluate the effectiveness. Methods Totally 122 undergraduate nursing students participated this one-year research program and were divided into two groups. The experiment group was taught with unfolding nursing cases, while the normal nursing cases were applied to the control group. The effectiveness of this pedagogical was evaluated via the Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory-Chinese Version(CTDI-CV) and the final examination. Results After one year‘s experiment, the experiment group scored 303.77±15.24 of CTDI-CV, while the control group scored 288.34±13.94. The difference was statistically significant. And the experiment group got significant better performance in the final examination. Conclusions The pedagogics of applying unfolding nursing cases in nursing education is effective to facilitate the nursing students’ critical thinking and academic performance.

    2016, 13 (1):  25-30.  doi: 10.3761/j.issn.1672-9234.2016.01.005
Objective To evaluate the effects of concept map strategy in the course of Pharmacology in secondary vocational nursing students. Methods Two classes of secondary vocational nursing students were recruited as the experimental group and the control group. Traditional teaching method and concept map was applied in the course of Pharmacology in the control group and the experimental group, respectively. The outcomes were evaluated using students‘ performance in final exam and questionnaires survey among students in the experimental group. Results The students’ performance in final exam was significantly higher in the experimental group than that of the control group(88.72 versus 79.71,t=7.959,P<0.001). 61.54% of the students in the experimental group preferred concept map strategy very much. They agreed that concept map could motivate their learning interest(53.85%), improve their self-directed learning ability(52.31%),cooperative learning ability(56.92%),detecting problem and problem-solving ability(50.77%). Conclusion Concept map teaching strategy can not only improve academic performance of secondary vocational nursing students, but also motivate students‘ learning interest and cultivate students’ abilities of self-directed learning and cooperative learning.

Objective To evaluate the effects of simulation teaching in the prevention of occupation hazards in nursing students. Methods Eighty-seven nursing students were randomly assigned to the experimental group(n=44) and the control group(n=43). Students in the experimental group received simulation teaching in the course of occupational protection, while students in the control group received traditional teaching. Students on occupation protective attitude rate of correct answers and the occupation protection knowledge rate were investigated when the courses were completed. The occupation hazard occurrence and the occupation protection behaviors were examined at the end of the internship. Results The occupation protective attitude rate of correct answers and the occupation protection knowledge rate were significantly higher in the experimental group than that in the control group(P<0.05). The occupation protection behaviors scores in the experimental group was 41.56±8.20, which was significantly higher than the scores in the control group(32.45±6.28)(P<0.05). The number of students suffered from more than one occupation hazards in the experimental group was significantly less than that in the control group(P<0.05). Conclusion Occupation protection simulation teaching can improve the quality and effectiveness of occupation protection teaching in nursing students,as well as the occupation protection knowledge level and the protecting behavior.

Objective To investigate the acceptance and attitude towards male nurses among community residents and hospitalized patients, and provide evidence for educating eligible male nursing students and stabilizing male nursing team in hospitals. Methods Totally 297 community residents and 241 hospitalized patients or relatives were investigated with a self-deigned questionnaire. Results 60.27%(179/297) of community residents and 72.20% (174/241) hospitalized patients or relatives knew about or cared by male nurses,43.43% (129/297) of community residents and 70.12% (169/241) of hospitalized patients would like to accept nursing care by male nurses. The awareness and acceptance of hospitalized patients was significantly higher than that of community residents(P<0.01). Male hospitalized patients, community residents and hospitalized patients with higher educational level showed higher acceptance towards male nurses (P<0.05 or P<0.01). The main factors which people were reluctant to male nurses were traditional concept, considering the privacy, sense of occupational accomplishment, poor operating capacity and lack of communication ability. Conclusion The awareness towards male nurses of community residents and hospitalized patients needs to be improved, and male nurses should develop occupation planning as early as possible.

    HONG Ai-jun,FAN Ai-fei,WEN Shu-ping,DING Xiao-rong
    2016, 13 (1):  64-67.  doi: 10.3761/j.issn.1672-9234.2016.01.015
Objective To investigate the level and influence factors of peripheral central venous catheter(PICC) related knowledge among nursing students after clinical practice. Methods Totally 160 nursing students after clinical practice were recruited by convenience sampling method. They were investigated using a self-designed questionnaire. Results The average score of PICC related knowledge was(64.87±15.59). 44(27.5%) students scored lower than 60 points,94(58.8%) and 22(13.8%) students scored ranged from 60 to 80 points and over 80 points, respectively. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that educational level, the number of practice departments involving PICC skills,PICC pathway infusion times, times of washing and sealing catheters, and the number of mistakes in PICC operation were influence factors of PICC related knowledge. Conclusion PICC related knowledge among nursing students after clinical practice is at medium level, and the relevant knowledge is not yet comprehensive. It is suggested to strengthen the training of PICC related knowledge and skills for nursing students,in order to improve their ability to handle problems in PICC nursing in clinical practice and guarantee the safety of nursing care.

    2016, 13 (1):  67-70.  doi: 10.3761/j.issn.1672-9234.2016.01.016
Objective To investigate the change tendency and possible reasons of study engagement among associate nursing students in different grades. Methods Totally 270 associate nursing students were investigated using Utrecht Work Engagement Scale-Student at each year and 14 students were interviewed. Results The total score and dimension scores of study engagement among first-year and third-year nursing students were significantly higher than those of second-year students(P<0.05).The possible reasons of changes in study engagement were that students in the first grade were curious about new knowledge, the learning interest decreased with the increased difficulty of learning content in the second grade, the learning needs and interest in the third grade were stimulated by clinical practice. Conclusion Nursing teachers in junior colleges should pay more attention to the study engagement of second-year nursing students, increase opportunities of clinical practice and take multiple teaching methods to stimulate students’ learning interests and needs, and thereby to improve their study engagement.

    2016, 13 (1):  71-74.  doi: 10.3761/j.issn.1672-9234.2016.01.017
Objective To investigate the status and influencing factors of attitude toward caring for dying patients in undergraduate nursing students,so as to provide evidence for the design of hospice care program. Methods Totally 324 undergraduate nursing students in a university in Fujian province were investigated with a self-designed general information questionnaire and the Frommelt Attitude Toward Care of Dying(FATCOD). Results The total score of attitude toward caring for dying patients in undergraduate nursing students was(110.90±17.14). Multiple linear regression analysis showed that gender, religion belief, hospice care training, place of birth could explain the total variance of 30.6% for taking care of dying patients. Conclusion Undergraduate nursing students show positive attitude toward caring for dying patients. Gender, religion belief, hospice care training and place of birth are influencing factors of attitude toward caring for dying patients. Nursing educators should provide nursing students with hospice care education in order to improve their attitude toward caring for dying patients.
