Innovation design and practice of ideological and political education in the Fundamentals of Nursing course

Abstract:

Objective To explore the effects of integrating the O-AMAS(Objective,Activation,Multi-learning,Assessment,and Summary) Effective Teaching Model with Case-Based Learning(CBL) in ideological and political education within the Fundamentals of Nursing course. Methods A design for ideological and political education in the Fundamentals of Nursing course was formulated,which mainly included determining ideological and political objectives and elements,designing an integration plan for “course” and “ideological and political”,planning teaching implementation,and constructing teaching resources. The ideological and political education was conducted in the Fundamentals of Nursing course for 344 full-time undergraduate nursing students of the 2022 cohort at a medical college. The teaching effects were evaluated through course grades,the results of Professional Identity Questionnaire for Nursing Students,the Questionnaire on Ideological and Political Education in Professional Nursing Courses for Undergraduates,and student interviews. Results The course scores of the 344 students were(78.92±7.13) points;the mean score for the items on professional identity was(3.38±0.61) points;and the mean score for the items on the evaluation of ideological and political education in the Fundamentals of Nursing course was(4.53±0.61) points. Three themes were extracted from the interview with 14 students:transformed cognition;enhanced abilities;cultivated professional qualities. Conclusion The O-AMAS Effective Teaching Model combined with CBL demonstrated positive outcomes in ideological education for Fundamentals of Nursing,with high student satisfaction. This study can provide valuable references for course reform and construction in Fundamentals of Nursing.
