Abstract:

Objective To develop the course Strategies and Methods for AI-Empowered Nursing Research and Practice and evaluate the effect of its teaching practice. Methods On the basis of establishing a course development and teaching team with multidisciplinary backgrounds, the course Strategies and Methods for AI-Empowered Nursing Research and Practice was designed. The main steps included:defining course objectives;designing teaching content, methods and implementation;developing course resources. From September to November 2024,teaching practice was implemented among 55 first-batch elective students who elected this public optional course. The teaching practice effect was comprehensively evaluated through students’ course scores, the results of students’ course satisfaction survey, and interviews on students’ course gains etc. Results Among the 55 students, there were 14 doctoral students and 41 master level students. In terms of academic background,50 students had a major in Nursing. Of the remaining 5 students,2 were from the major of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and the other 3 were from the majors of Medical Systems Biology,Surgery, and Pediatrics respectively. For students’ course grades:12 students(22%) received a grade of A,31 students(56%) received A-,and 12 students(22%) received B+. The average score of course satisfaction was(8.30±1.72). Four themes were derived from students’ interview data:1) the course content was highly enlightening;2) discussion-based teaching enhanced students’ sense of gain;3) perceived practicality of the course;4) expectations and suggestions, including adding courses related to basic AI knowledge, increasing practical operations and project incubation training, involving more interdisciplinary teachers in teaching, and making teaching focus more prominent to address clinical pain points directly. Conclusion The teaching practice of the course Strategies and Methods for AI-Empowered Nursing Research and Practice has achieved good results. Its content and format have been widely recognized by students, providing a reference and demonstration for the cultivation of innovative talents in nursing research and clinical practice in the AI era.
