The association between health literacy and self-management of arteriovenous fistula for young and middle-aged patients with maintenance hemodialysis

Abstract:

Objective To investigate the status and correlation of self-management of arteriovenous fistula and health literacy for young and middle-aged patients with maintenance hemodialysis. Methods A total of 188 young and middle-aged patients with maintenance hemodialysis from two tertiary hospitals in Zhengzhou were investigated by using general information questionnaire,Self-management Scale of Arteriovenous Fistula in Maintenance Hemodia-lysis Patients,and Health Literacy Management Scale. Results The mean total score of health literacy was (108.37±10.84). The mean total score of self-management of arteriovenous fistula was(101.68±12.03). The health literacy and self-management of arteriovenous fistula showed a positive correlation(r=0.474,P<0.001). Conclusion The health literacy of young and middle-aged hemodialysis patients and the self-management of arteriovenous fistula are in good condition, and they are related. Suggesting that medical staff can strengthen self-management of arteriovenous fistula by improving patients’ health literacy,and adopt individualized management.
