Abstract:

Objective To investigate the current situation and influencing factors of mental health literacy of the elderly with type 2 diabetes in nursing institutions, and to provide a theoretical basis for the management of mental health of diabetic patients in nursing institutions. Methods From February to May 2021,people with type 2 diabetes in three nursing homes in Chengdu were selected for the study using the general information questionnaire, and the Multiple Mental Health Literacy Scale by convenience sampling method. Results 264 ques-tionnaires were distributed and 249 valid questionnaires were returned, with a valid return rate of 94.3%. 249 elderly with type 2 diabetes had a total mental health literacy score of 8.00(5.00,13.00). The results of multifactor analysis showed that education level, exercise frequency and duration of diabetes were the influencing factors of mental health literacy among type 2 diabetic patients in nursing institutions, which could explain 51.1% of the total variance. Conclusion The mental health literacy level of elderly people with type 2 diabetes in nursing institutions is low, which is affected by a combination of factors, and corresponding measures should be taken to improve their mental health literacy and the quality of life of elderly people with type 2 diabetes in nursing institutions.
