Abstract:

Objective To clarify the concept of elder self-neglect by Rodgers' evolutionary concept analysis. Methods Seven databases of CNKI,Wanfang,VIP database,SinoMed,PubMed,The Cochrane Library and Embase were searched systematically. Articles were screened according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. By using Rodgers' evolutionary concept analysis,we analyzed the concept of elder self-neglect from the following aspects:concept evolution, its attributes, antecedents, consequences, surrogate and related terms, and a typical case. Results A total of 31 articles were included with 8 in Chinese and 23 in English. The elder self-neglect is predisposed, multidimensional, and invisible. The antecedents of elder self-neglect are social-demographic characteristics, physical health, psychological health, and social support system. The consequences of elder self-neglect are related to the changes of living status, social interaction, and increase the readmission rate and risk of death. Conclusion In this study,Rodgers evolutionary concept analysis is used to clarify the concept of self-neglect in older adults, which will provide reference for future studies related to elder self-neglect and contribute to the development of elder self-neglect assessment tools and theoretical models.
