Abstract:

Objective To explore the effect of health education based on board game in volume management of elderly patients with maintenance hemodialysis. Methods From July 2022 to January 2023,convenience sampling method was adopted to recruit 90 elderly patients who received maintenance hemodialysis in a tertiary hospital in Shanxi Province. These participants were divided into an experimental group and a control group by a random number table method. The experimental group adopted the health education program based on board game including preliminary understanding of board games, knowledge enhancement, role exchange and integration. Meanwhile the control group received routine health education program. The satisfaction of patients in the experimental group with board game was investigated, and the scores of hemodialysis disease knowledge, volume management behavior and rate of volume control were compared between the two groups after the intervention. Results A total of 43 patients in the intervention group and 42 patients in the control group had completed the study. After the intervention,86% of the patients in the experimental group were highly satisfied with board game. The scores of hemodialysis disease knowledge, volume management behavior in the intervention group were(19.19±2.03) and (21.49±1.82) respectively, which were higher than those of patients in the control group of(16.48±2.63) and(16.86±1.96)(t=5.335,11.306;P<0.001). In addition, the rate of volume control in the experimental group was 79%,higher than that of 55% in the control group(χ2=5.683,P<0.05). Conclusion The implementation of health education based on board game can effectively improve the knowledge level of elderly patients of maintenance hemodialysis, enhance volume management behavior and the compliance rate of volume control.
