Abstract:

Objective To translate the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Fatigue(IBD-F) Patient Self-assessment Scale into Chinese, and to evaluate the reliability and validity of the scale of the Chinese version. Methods Permission to translate the instrument was obtained from the original developer. The Inflammatory Bowel Disease Fatigue(IBD-F) Patient Self-assessment Scale was translated and back-translated into the Chinese version. Through expert consultation and pre-test,the cross-cultural adaptation of the instrument was completed. Seven experts were invited to evaluate the validity of the instrument. The Chinese version of the instrument was distributed to 100 IBD outpatients. Results The Cronbach’s coefficient of Chinese version IBD-F Patient Self-assessment scale was 0.966. Test-retest reliability was 0.850. Content validity index of the instrument was 0.986. The correlation coefficient between Chinese version IBD-F Patient Self-assessment Scale score and Chinese version MFI-20 Scale score was 0.793(P<0.001). Exploratory factor analysis showed that the first and second part of the scale were single-dimensional structure, and the load values of each factor were 0.383~0.955. The final Chinese version scale was composed of 3 parts with 5 items in the first part,30 items in the second part, and 5 open questions in the third part. Conclusion The Chinese version of IBD-F Patient Self-assessment Scale has good reliability and validity which could be used as a screening tool for fatigue in patients with inflammatory bowel disease.
