Application of standardized patients in health education ability training in a higher vocational college

Abstract: Objective To explore the application methods and effects of standardized patient(SP) in Medical Nursing in a higher vocational college. Methods Year two students of 2 classes were recruited. One class was assigned to the experimental group and SP was used for training of health education ability in Medical Nursing. The other class was in the control group and students themselves acted as the patients. When the course was completed,students' evaluation towards the SP teaching was surveyed with a self-developed questionnaire. In addition,15 students from each group were interviewed to know their experience and feedback on SP teaching.Results The questionnaire survey showed that the teaching evaluation in the experimental group was better than that in the control group(P <0.05). Students in the experimental group believed that the feedback from SP was natural,true and targeted which helped them learn related knowledge according to the specific conditions of different patients. Conclusion SP can improve the health education ability for students in the high vocational college.
