The mediating role of perceived control between health literacy and health empowerment in middle-aged and older patients with chronic diseases

Abstract:

Objective To explore the role of perceived control between the health literacy and health empowerment in middle-aged and older patients with chronic diseases. Methods A total of 454 middle-aged and older patients with chronic diseases in Yanji were recruited by convenience sampling. The general information questionnaire,the chronic patient empowerment scale,the chronic patient health literacy and health-related control feeling scale were used. Results The average score of health empowerment was 120.56±17.01,and 28.9% of the effects of health literacy on health empowerment were mediated by the perceptual control. Conclusion Health literacy can directly affect the health empowerment of middle-aged and older patients with chronic diseases. Perceived control mediates the positive effects of health literacy and health empowerment.
