Abstract: Objective To explore the effects of the narrative therapy on health promoting behaviors of patients with coronary heart disease. Methods A total of 164 patients with coronary heart disease were selected and divided into the control group(n=82) and the experimental group(n=82) according to their wards in the department of cardiology of a hospital in Chengde city from January to September,2018. The traditional psychological care was provided to the patients in the control group. The narrative therapy was given to the experimental group with a frequency of 2~3 times per week. The duration of each narrative therapy lasted for 20~30 min/time and a total of 6 times of narrative therapy were completed. The health promoting lifestyle profile-Ⅱ (HPLP-Ⅱ) was used to eval-uate the effects between the groups. Results After the intervention, the total score and each dimension score of patients in the experimental group were significantly higher than those of patients in the control group (P<0.05).The total score and each dimension score after the intervention were higher than those before the intervention in the experimental group (P<0.05). The total score and scores of health responsibility, nutrition, and physical activity after the intervention were higher than those before the intervention in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion The narrative therapy can effectively improve the health promotion behaviors of patients with coronary heart disease. However, the therapy has high requirements for time and technical skills and its promotion is highly limited.
