Research on the design and implementation of a three-stage progressive ideological and political education curriculum in Surgical Nursing course

Abstract:

Objective To explore the design and practical effectiveness of a three-stage progressive ideological and political teaching model in Surgical Nursing course based on the Community of Inquiry(COI) model. Methods The teaching presence,cognitive presence,and social presence of COI were used as core elements to construct a three-stage progressive ideological and political teaching path:pre-class knowledge initiation(online),in-depth understanding during class (offline),and post-class knowledge internalization (offline). Video cases,game-based teaching,and reflective diaries were integrated into ideological and political education. The effectiveness of the course’s ideological and political construction was evaluated from both student feedback and peer assessment,involving 165 full-time nursing undergraduates from the 2022 grade. Results Students generally gave high evaluations to the ideological and political teaching reform. The course deepened students’ understanding of the value of the nursing profession,prompted them to reconsider the essence of surgical nursing work,positively shifted their employment intentions,and significantly improved learning outcomes. Students also provided insights on the limitations of online second classroom construction. The course was recognized as a university-level ideological and political demonstration course and a provincial-level first-class online and offline course. Conclusion The three-stage progressive ideological and political teaching model in surgical nursing based on COI has achieved significant results,demonstrating a synergistic effect in course-based education. Further integration of online ideological and political resources with offline cases is recommended to enhance student learning interest.
