Abstract:

Objective To develop a multi-role collaborative training virtual simulation experimental program based on an immersive trauma emergency scene and to test the stability and feasibility of the program. Methods The experimental program was designed according to the real clinical cases and developed by using Unity3D technology and game engine. Fifteen undergraduates in medicine and nursing were recruited online to form 5 interprofessional cooperative learning groups and complete at least 3 experiments. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to understand students’ learning experiences, effects and suggestions. Results The highest score among the 5 groups was 92 and the lowest score was 71. No technical failure in the preliminary test was found indicating a good stability. Students showed positive willingness to learn in the program. They recognized the effect of virtual simulation experiment in learning the operation, strengthening the sense of mission and teamwork, and promoting the understanding among different professions. Students also suggested to have teachers present in the learning process to help understand the knowledge and skills of different professions. Conclusion The virtual simulation experimental program provides high-quality interprofessional learning experience and strengthens students’ cognition of the core competence of interprofessional cooperative practice. It has some values in promoting the interprofessional education and is worth of further promotion.
