Abstract:

Objective To translate the Cancer Distress Scales for Adolescent and Young Adults(CDS-AYA),developed by McMaster University,Canada, and to test its reliability and validity. Methods A research group was established for the instrument translation and psychometric properties evaluation. The forward translation and back translation of the scale were carried out following the FACIT translation model. Final contents of the scale were established through culture adaption, cognitive interviews and pilot survey. To examine the validity and reliability of the instrument,a total of 505 young cancer patients recruited by convenience sampling were surveyed from April to September 2020. Among them,30 patients were selected to complete the instrument 2 weeks later. Six experts were invited to evaluate the content validity. The psychometric properties of the instrument was evaluated by calculating the internal consistency, structure validity, and content validity. Results The revised Chinese version of CDS-AYA has 6 dimensions(cancer impact, body, emotion, cognition, cancer concern,employment/academic) and 50 items. The content validity index of each item ranged from 0.83 to 1.00. Exploratory factor analysis showed that the cumulative variance contribution rate of the 6 factors was 70.079%. Confirmatory factor analysis supported the measurement model with χ2/df=2.886,GFI=0.656,AGFI=0.624,CFI=0.809,NFI=0.736,IFI=0.810,TLI=0.800. The Cronbach’s α of the scale was 0.971 and ranged from 0.892 to 0.962 for the 6 subscales. The test-retest reliability was 0.963. Conclusion The Chinese version of CDS-AYA has good reliability and validity. The model fit is good, and can be used to screen and assess psychological distress in young cancer patients in China.
