Abstract: Objective To investigate the current situation and its influencing factors of self-directed learning ability and hardiness personality for undergraduate nursing students in Lanzhou. Methods A total of 398 nursing students were investigated by using the Medical Students Self-learning Ability Scale and the Hardiness Scale.Results The motivation subscale score of self-directed learning ability was（104.12±13.38），the strategy subscale score of self-directed learning ability was （94.78±12.50），and the hardiness personality score was （79.77±11.67）. There was a significant positive correlation between the self-directed learning ability and the hardiness personality （P<0.05）. Conclusion The self-directed learning ability of undergraduate nursing students is poor，the hardiness personality was slightly higher than medium. It is suggested that nursing educators should pay attention to the for-mation of their hardiness personality and the improvement of their self-directed learning ability.
