Abstract:

Promoted by the Department of Maternal and Child Health of the National Health Commission of the National Health Council and the “First-class Undergraduate Program” initiative of the Ministry of Education, the midwifery major in China—dedicated to ensuring maternal and infant safety and improving birth population quality—has encountered unprecedented development opportunities. The quality of the faculty directly determines the effectiveness of talent cultivation and professional advancement. Taking the first National First-class Undergraduate Program in midwifery in China—the School of Nursing,Southern Medical University—as an example, this paper summarizes the valuable experience in faculty development, identifies the common challenges currently faced, and proposes future directions. It aims to provide a reference for peer institutions in cultivating midwifery faculty and jointly promoting the high-quality development of midwifery higher education in China.
