The effects of incorporating human anatomy practice into the skills practice of Fundamental of Nursing in a higher vocational college

Abstract: Objective To explore the effects of incorporating human anatomy practice into the skills practice of Fundamentals of Nursing in a higher vocational college.Methods Students in four classes of three-year higher vocational nursing program were selected with two classes of grade 2016 being assigned to the control group and the other two classes of grade 2017 being assigned to the experimental group. The traditional basic nursing teaching model was adopted in the control group while human anatomy practice was incorporated into the skills practice of Fundamentals of Nursing. The performance of final examination,skills examination,and class participation were evaluated. Besides,students' evaluations on such a teaching method were also recorded.Results The mean final exam score of the experimental group was(78.59±6.22) and the skills examination score was(82.55±7.62),all of them were significantly higher than those of the control group(P<0.05). The positive participation rate on answering questions was 45.60%. The evaluation score of the course is(3.88±0.79).Conclusion The incorporation of human anatomy into the skills practice of Fundamentals of Nursing can strengthen students' understanding of nursing skills and improve their skills level and clinical competence. It is worth of further promotion.
