Abstract:

Objective To investigate the current status of emergency knowledge, beliefs, and behaviors among community residents. Methods The residents with non-medical background in Hefei were recruited as the participant by convenient sampling method from March to September 2022. A self-designed questionnaire of first aid knowledge, belief and behavior was used for investigation. Results A total of 1 252 residents were surveyed with first aid knowledge score of(11.01±2.29),first aid belief score of(36.36±6.25) and first aid behavior score of (19.45±2.70) respectively. There was a statistically significant difference in first aid knowledge, belief, and behavior scores among people with different age and self-perceived mastery of first aid knowledge (P<0.05). Whether or not received training on first aid knowledge and skills has a statistically significant impact on first aid knowledge and belief scores (P<0.05),yet no statistically significant impact on first aid behavior score(P>0.05). Conclusion Community residents’ first aid knowledge and belief level are at a moderate to high level, and their behavior is at a moderate level. It is necessary to further develop a reasonable public first aid knowledge and skill training program to improve the first aid knowledge and skill level for community residents.
