    Application of the defect situational teaching method in the course of Traditional Chinese Medicine Nursing

    Objective  To evaluate the effects of the defect situational teaching method in the course of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) Nursing. Methods  Totally 158 undergraduate nursing students were divided into three groups. The traditional teaching method,situational teaching method and defect situational teaching method was applied in the course of TCM nursing,respectively. The students performance in the final test and evaluation on the teaching method were compared among the three groups. Results  The students performance in the final test,classroom atmosphere and students?蒺 satisfaction in the defect situational group were superior to the other two groups(P<0.01). Conclusion  The defect situational teaching method is more advantageous to promote students to think actively,improve students ability of migration and integrated use of knowledge.

    Objective  To evaluate the effects of integrating films and television programs into the situational cases for problem-based learning(PBL) in Community Nursing among undergraduate nursing students. Methods  PBL teaching approach was implemented in the course of Community Nursing. Films and television programs based situational cases were used in the experimental group,while traditional literal cases were used in the control group. Results  The students?蒺 performance in theory test and skills exam was significantly higher in the experimental group than that of the control group(P<0.01),especially in the applying and integrating knowledge,detecting and solving problems,collaboration and communication competence. Conclusion  Integrating films and television programs into the situational cases can simulate students?蒺 learning interest, facilitate students to identify problems in real social situation,promote problem-solving ability and enhance collaboration and communication competency.
    Application of standardized patient acted by retired nurses in case-based learning in the course of Surgical Nursing

    Objective  To evaluate the effects of applying standardized patient acted by retired nurses in case-based learning in the course of Surgical Nursing. Methods  The retired nurses were trained to act standardized patients with acute abdominal disease in the case-based learning. Results  Most students reported that this teaching method promoted their practical ability(71.7%),mastery of knowledge(61.7%) and learning initiative(60.0%). All students passed the exam and 85.0% got a score higher than 80 points. Conclusion  The retired nurses acting standardized patient achieves good teaching outcomes in case-based learning. Moreover,this practice can make full use of the advantage of retired nurses.
    The effects of video recording and feedback in the practice teaching of nurse interpersonal communication

     Objective  To explore the methods and effects of video recording and feedback in the practice teaching of nurse interpersonal communication. Methods  The process of nurse interpersonal communication practice was recorded by videos among undergraduate nursing students in Grade 2011. Then,the videos were analyzed to find out the problems in nurse interpersonal communication. The teaching outcomes were evaluated by questionnaires. Results  Most students reported that this teaching method could improve their communication skills(97.1%),stimulate learning interest(92.8%),promote the change from passive learning to active learning(94.2%). Conclusion  Video recording and feedback achieves good teaching outcomes in the practice teaching of nurse interpersonal communication. It deserves to be tried in other courses.

    Objective  To investigate the present situation and influencing factors of acceptance of disability in patients with cerebral ischemic stroke(CIS). Methods  Totally 234 CIS patients were investigated with the basic information questionnaire and the Acceptance of Disability Scale. Results  The total score of acceptance of disability was(128.56±28.77) in CIS patients; 55.98%,28.63% and 15.38% were in the low,moderate and high level,respectively. Multiple regression analysis showed that the score of modified Barthel index(MBI),the score of Fugl-Meyer assessment scale(FMA),episode frequency,course of disease and the type of medical insurance were influencing factors of acceptance of disability,which could explain 38.7% of the total variance. Conclusion  The acceptance of disability is in low level in CIS patients,and is influenced by MBI score,FMA score,episode frequency,course of disease and the type of medical insurance. It is suggested to take actions to enhance patient?蒺s acceptance of disability.
    The effect of health education on disease-related knowledge and safe sex in patients with sexually transmitted diseases

    Objective  To evaluate the effect of health education on disease-related knowledge and safe sex in patients with sexually transmitted diseases(STD). Methods  Seven nurses received professional knowledge and skills training and they provided health education on STD-related knowledge and safe sex,psychological interventions and follow-up service for 362 STD patients in the private consulting room. Results  After intervention,the patients?蒺 knowledge related to the relapse,risk factors,prevention and consequences of STD increased significantly(P<0.01);their willingness to use condoms increased from 8.01% to 51.66%;the proportion having sex behaviors with spouse increased from 15.19% to 40.88%,with regular sex partner increased from 23.48% to 33.98%,with commercial partners decreased from 31.49% to 11.05%(P<0.01). Conclusion  Health education can effectively improve the disease-related knowledge and promote safe sex behaviors in STD patients.

     

    Self-compassion during early clinical experience among first-year undergraduate nursing students

    Objective  To investigate the current situation of self-compassion during early clinical experience among first-year undergraduate nursing students, and to explore the way to improve the ability of self-compassion. Methods  Seventy-three first-year undergraduate nursing students were recruited in this study using purpose sampling method. The students were investigated using the Self-Compassion Questionnaire and their diaries during early clinical experience were analyzed using Colaizzi?蒺s analysis method. Results  The average score of self-compassion was(3.43±0.32),which was in moderate to high level. The early clinical experience diaries indicated that the students showed sensitivity to others,interest to explore the meaning of experience,expression of positive feelings and high level of self-regulation,and objective coping with negative issues and emotions. Conclusion  The first-year undergraduate nursing students showed sensitivity and compassion to others and high level of self-acceptance. self-regulation and social adjustment However, their self-compassion ability need to be further improved so as to cope with negative emotions better.
    The intentions and influencing factors to work in primary hospitals among undergraduate nursing students

    Objective  To investigate the intentions and influencing factors to work in primary hospitals among undergraduate nursing students. Methods  Totally 1005 undergraduate nursing students were investigated with a self-designed questionnaire. Results  Only 3.8% undergraduate nursing students were willing to work in primary hospitals very much; more than 40% students were willing to work in primary hospitals if there were priority policy support. Among those who were willing to work in primary hospitals,88.0% preferred to county hospitals or community health centers,and only 8.6% tended to work in rural health centers or village health clinics. The students whose first choice was nursing,or liked nursing specialty or had practical experience in primary hospitals or knew more about the nursing work in primary hospitals were more likely to work in primary hospitals(P<0.05). The most common reason willing to work in primary hospitals was near to family(64.2%),while low income and welfare was the most common reason not willing to work in primary hospitals(77.8%). Conclusion  The intention to work in primary hospitals is low in undergraduate nursing students. It is suggested to modify college admission policy and employment policy and help students to obtain more information about primary hospitals to improve the employment rate in primary hospitals.

    Objective  To evaluate the effect of dentist-nurse group didactics in four-handed dentistry teaching for stomatological nursing students. Methods  The dentist-nurse group didactics mode was implemented in four-handed dentistry teaching for 56 stomatological nursing students. Results  After training,students?蒺 performance in the comprehensive exam was improved significantly(P<0.05),especially in the aspects of mastery of treatment procedures,correct preparation,handover and use of apparatus and instruments,accurate cooperation and communication with dentists,initiative cooperation and the dentist?蒺s satisfaction. Moreover,the students showed high satisfaction with learning interest(95.54%) and confidence(95.98%). Conclusion  The dentist-nurse group didactics mode can improve nursing students?蒺 four-handed dentistry skills,facilitate them to adapt to clinical work and realize the integration of teaching and clinical work.
    Academic adjustment of undergraduate nursing students in the University of Traditional Chinese Medicine

     Objective  To investigate the level of academic adjustment among undergraduate nursing students,and provide a basis for nursing educators to improve students?蒺 academic adjustment. Methods  Totally 251 undergraduate nursing students were investigated using Undergraduate Academic Adjustment Scale(UAAS). Results  The score of academic adjustment among undergraduate nursing students was(3.52±0.44).The scores of academic ability were different among students in different family education styles(P<0.05) and grades(P<0.05);the scores of learning attitudes were different among students in different grades(P<0.05). Moreover,professional satisfaction was related to the scores of learning motivation,teaching mode,academic ability,learing attitudes and the total score of academic adjustment(P<0.05). Conclusion  Undergraduate nursing students have right learning attitudes,but lower level of learning motivation and academic environment. Nursing educators should guide nursing students looking for intrinsic motivation,forming good academic attitude,and provide well academic environment for them aiming at different adjustment problems.
    The practice and effects of safety culture education among nursing students in clinical practice

    Objective  To evaluate the effects of safety culture education for nursing students in clinical practice. Methods  Totally 359 nursing students in clinical practice received 28-hour safety culture education in pre-job training period. In addition,the students participated in the meeting about safety risk analysis and nursing adverse events. The students?蒺 safety culture knowledge and awareness of adverse events were compared before and 3 months after training. The incidence of nursing adverse events in the first 6 months in clinical practice was compared before and after the practice. Results  The students?蒺 safety culture knowledge and awareness of nursing adverse events at 3 months after training was better than before(P<0.01). The incidence of nursing adverse events in the first 6 months in clinical practice decreased(P<0.05). Conclusion  College and teaching hospitals should actively provide safety culture education for nursing students to improve their safety culture knowledge and awareness of nursing adverse events and reduce the incidence of nursing adverse events.

    Objective  To explore the application of 360-degree performance appraisal in the evaluation of higher vocational nursing students in clinical practice. Methods  Totally 179 higher vocational nursing students were evaluated by clinical instructors,peers,themselves,doctors,patients or relatives using a self-designed questionnaire. The weight of each part was determined. Results  The total performance score was(78.19±6.90) points. The scores rated by the nursing student herself/himself and peers were higher than clinical instructors(P<0.05). The patients and doctors rated lower scores on students?蒺 specialized skills and health education. Conclusion  360-degree performance appraisal can fairly and objectively evaluate nursing students from various perspectives. It is useful for the career development and comprehensive evaluation of nursing students.

    Objective  To investigate work related negative emotional experience and coping strategies among nurses in burn units. Methods  Sixty-seven nurses in burn units were invited to participate in the interview. Data were analyzed using Colaizzi?蒺s analysis method. Results  Three themes of work related negative emotional experience were extracted,including heavy job pressure,mental stress and stressful working atmosphere. The nurses?蒺 coping strategies against negative emotions were limited. Conclusion  Nursing administrators should pay more attention to nurses?蒺 emotional experience,improve nurse staffing and create a harmonious working environment to stabilize nurse team in burn units.

    Objective  To investigate the risk factors and preventive measures of phlebitis in patients with preoperative indwelling needles. Methods  The risk factors of phlebitis were retrospectively analyzed based on the data of 57 cases with preoperative indwelling needles from January to June in 2013. Aimed at the risk factors,some preventive measures were carried out in aspects of selection of proper puncture site,the type of indwelling needles,fixation method and puncture techniques. Results  The incidence of phlebitis in patients with indwelling needles decreased from 2.8% to 0.2%(P<0.01). Conclusion  Selection of proper type of indwelling needles,puncture site and standardized fixation method can effectively decrease the incidence of phlebitis in patients with preopera?鄄tive indwelling needles.
