Abstract:

Objectives To identify the most commonly used instruments measuring fear of childbirth (FOC) and assess risk of bias, measurement properties, and level of evidence based on the Consensus-based Standards for the Selection of Health Measurement Instruments (COSMIN) guidelines. Methods PubMed,Scopus,CINAHL,Web of Science,SinoMed,Wanfang Data and CNKI databases were electronically searched to collect studies on the instruments of measuring FOC from their inception to March 2021. Two reviewers independently screened literatures, extracted data and assessed risk of bias of included studies. Methodological quality of the studies, quality of measurement properties, and level of evidence were determined using the COSMIN checklist and criteria. Results A total of 27 studies were included, including 5 measurement tools for FDC. The content validity quality of Wijma Delivery Expectancy/Experience Questionnaire(W-DEQ) was sufficient, and the evidence quality level is low. The structural validity quality was sufficient, and the evidence quality level was intermediate. The internal consistency quality was sufficient, and the evidence quality level was intermediate. The stability quality was sufficient and the evidence quality level was high. The hypothesis testing quality was sufficient and the evidence quality level was high. Conclusion The W-DEQ is recommended to be used in the measurement of childbirth FDC. The quality of the measurement attributes of the other parturition fear scales is still incomplete and needs to be further investigated.
