Abstract: Objective To explore the effects of narrative ability training on the empathy ability of new nurses. Methods Eighty-four new nurses recruited in July 2018 were selected. Both online and offline learning were used. Nurses empathy ability was cultivated through lecture, video education, situational simulation, reading salons, writing with no specific topics, and experience sharing. Results The empathy ability of new nurses was generally low be-fore the training. The total score of empathy ability of new nurses (118.53±5.15) was higher than the score before the training (106.14±4.21) and the score 3 months after the training (112.26±4.43) (P<0.05). Conclusion It is feasible to include narrative nursing into the routine training for new nurses. However, the empathy ability of nurses decreased 3 months after the training and this should be paid adequate attention by those nursing managers.
