Abstract:

Objective To investigate the current situation of nurses’ fear of missing out (FoMO),analyze its latent profiles and population characteristics, and influencing factors. Methods Through convenience sampling,603 nurses who worked in tertiary hospitals from one tertiary general hospital in each of Zhejiang Province and Shandong Province were selected as participants between September and November 2024. The demographic questionnaire, the Nurses’ FOMO Scale, the Chinese version of the 10-Item Big Five Inventory, and the Nursing Work Environment Scale were used for investigation. Latent profiles of nurses’ FoMO characteristics were analyzed, and the influencing factors of their latent profiles were identified by univariate analysis and multivariate logistic regression. Results A total of 576 nurses were included. The average score of nurses’ FoMO was(75.03 ± 17.21). The nurses could be divided into three latent subgroups, including “Overall High Anxiety”(46.4%),“Short-term Goal Anxiety”(38.0%),and “Long-term Development Obsession”(15.6%). The results of multivariate logistic regression showed that nurses’ age, monthly income, marital status, degree of family harmony, participation in counseling training, personality type and nursing work environment were the influencing factors for the latent profile category of FoMO(P<0.05). Conclusion The level of FoMO among nurses is moderate to high and exhibits heterogeneity, which can be classified into three distinct profiles. The nursing managers can develop individualized psychological interventions according to the influencing factors to reduce the level of nurses’ FoMO.
