Abstract:

Objective To investigate the current status of humanistic nursing practices in medical institutions in China. Methods A questionnaire on the current status of humanistic nursing practices in medical institutions was designed through literature review and expert consultation. In September 2023,a convenience sampling method was adopted to select 248 in-service nurses participating in the academic conference on humanities nursing of the Chinese Nursing Association as survey respondents. A general information questionnaire and a questionnaire on the current status of humanistic nursing in medical institutions were used for the survey. Results The average score of humanistic nursing practices across 188 medical institutions was(154.68±33.36),with an average score rate of 77%. The dimensions were ranked from highest to lowest in terms of their average score rate as follows:humanistic nursing environment(84%),humanistic nursing implementation(80%),humanistic nursing system and norms(79%),training in humanistic nursing(77%),organizational management of humanistic nursing(71%),and outcome of humanistic nursing(71%). Statistically significant differences were found in the overall humanistic nursing practices among medical institutions with different grades, locations, and the presence or absence of humanistic care wards(P<0.05). Conclusion The overall performance of humanistic nursing practices in the 188 medical institutions is at an upper-middle level(compared to the median score of 120). Nursing administrators should strengthen the organizational management of humanistic nursing, promote the development of achievements, and increase efforts in providing training on humanistic nursing for nurses, thereby further enhancing the level of humanistic nursing practices in medical institutions.
