Abstract: Objective To the effects of a training program oriented by two-way demands on core competence and professional identity of new nurses. Methods The nursing department developed the “General Principles for New Nurses Training” based on the “Guidelines for new nurses training”. A total number of 81 new nurses recruited in 2016 were assigned to the control group and trained according to the General Principles. Another 99 new nurses recruited in 2017 were assigned to the experimental group and they were trained by the training program oriented by two-way demands. The management system of new nurses was improved. The training program was developed based on the two-way training needs assessment. The training contents, innovative training and examination methods were adjusted according to the results of the needs assessment. After the training, nurses' professional identity and core competence were measured by the Nurses' Professional Identity Scale and the Chinese Registered Nurses' Core Competence Scale. Results After completing the first-year training in the two groups, the core competence and pro- fessional identity of new nurses in the experimental group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion The training program oriented by two-way demands can improve new nurses' core compe- tence and professional identity effectively.
