Integrating films and television programs into the situational cases for problem-based learning in Community Nursing

Abstract: Objective  To evaluate the effects of integrating films and television programs into the situational cases for problem-based learning(PBL) in Community Nursing among undergraduate nursing students. Methods  PBL teaching approach was implemented in the course of Community Nursing. Films and television programs based situational cases were used in the experimental group,while traditional literal cases were used in the control group. Results  The students?蒺 performance in theory test and skills exam was significantly higher in the experimental group than that of the control group(P<0.01),especially in the applying and integrating knowledge,detecting and solving problems,collaboration and communication competence. Conclusion  Integrating films and television programs into the situational cases can simulate students?蒺 learning interest, facilitate students to identify problems in real social situation,promote problem-solving ability and enhance collaboration and communication competency.
