Concept analysis of impostor phenomenon among nursing professionals

Abstract:

Objective To clarify the concept of impostor phenomenon among nursing professionals and to assist them in internalizing their accomplishments and realizing their full potential. Methods Systematic search was conducted in PubMed,Web of Science,CINAHL,PsycINFO,Proquest,CNKI,Wanfang,VIP Database and SinoMed for relevant literature on impostor phenomenon,and the Rodgers’ evolutionary concept was adopted for analysis. Results A total of 32 articles were included,and the concept of impostor phenomenon were identified as three attributes: inability to internalize successes and discount achievement,a sense of fear,and feelings of intellectual fraudulence and self-doubt. The antecedents included individual factors,interpersonal factors and environmental factors. Conclusion Impostor phenomenon is a psychological phenomenon that affects mental health and career development. The impostor phenomenon of nursing professionals should be identified as early as possible,so that targeted intervention can be carried out for them to promote their mental health and lay the foundation for improving the quality of medical care.
