Abstract:

Objective To explore undergraduates' experiences and perceptions of midwife's roles. Methods A total of 19 undergraduates majored in midwifery were interviewed and all the data were analyzed using Colaizzi 7 steps. Results Three themes were emerged from the data including “positive and negative role experience”“capacities and qualities required by the roles”,and “importance of clinical practice in changing the role perceptions”. Conclusion Undergraduates majored in midwifery have positive and negative role experiences towards midwives. Educators should focus on the clinical teaching of midwifery and the integration of professional education with ideological and political education and humanistic education. Measures should be taken to correctly guide students' role recognition to promote positive role experience and positive professional emotions.
