Abstract:

Objective To evaluate the effects of the teaching reform applied in the course of Emergency and Critical Care Nursing among undergraduate nursing students. Methods Primary trauma care with 4 modules was introduced into and incorporated in the course of Emergency and Critical Care Nursing among 209 year 3 undergraduate nursing students. Nurses in the emergency department were recruited in the teaching team. The hours of classroom teaching and practice were adjusted. Observation of real clinical rescue was increased. Case-based teaching, simulation and group discussion were used. OSCE was adopted for assessment. The evaluation of students was surveyed by using questionnaires. Results One hundred and eighty-nine students are satisfied with the course teaching(90.4%). 85% students reported that the reform could stimulate their learning interests and desire for knowledge, and enhance team cooperation, communication skills, emergency response competence and clinical thinking. Some students believed that the topical discussion and theoretical explanations need to be further improved. Conclusion Reformed Emergency and Critical Care Nursing can not only enrich the teaching contents, makes teaching closer to the clinical practice, but also promote their clinical thinking,on-site disposal ability, team cooperation, and self-directed learning.
