Application of transformative learning in nursing school education:a scoping review

Abstract:

Objective To comprehensively analyze the application of transformative learning in nursing education,aiming to provide reference for nursing educators to carry out transformative learning practice and research. Methods Based on Arksey and O’Malley’s scope review method,a total of 12 literature databases were searched,and the research from the establishment of the database to July 15,2022 was reviewed and analyzed and information was extracted. Results A total of 1 889 articles were retrieved,and 19 articles were finally included. In nursing school education,transformative learning theory was combined with other educational theories,learning models,and more with constructivism theory. The teaching methods are various,mainly based on reflection diary. The application of transformative learning in nursing school education has achieved positive results. However,there is no unified standard for teaching evaluation tools,which needs further study. Conclusion In the application of transformative learning in nursing school education,its feasible teaching methods and positive teaching effects have been preliminarily formed. In the future,nursing educators can construct an integrated teaching platform inside and outside the school,which is suitable for the transformative learning of nursing school,and unify the evaluation tools and evaluation systems of transformative learning teaching.
