Abstract:

Objective To explore the effects of designed training in clinical nursing instructors. Methods The training program for clinical nursing instructors was designed through assessment of nurses’ training needs and literature review. The program included theoretical training(the theory of nursing education, teaching methods, teaching skills, and basic knowledge of nursing research)with 44 hours and practice for 1 year. The evaluation method of the training program was further designed based on Kirkpatrick’s model, including the reaction level(satisfaction on the training),learning level(teaching plan presentation and teaching activity demonstration),behavioral level(giving a lecture and skills demonstration)and result level(evaluation of core competence and clinical teaching quality). The training was implemented from September 2018 to November 2019 among 45 clinical nursing instructors. The training effects were further evaluated according to the evaluation method. Results Reaction level:instructors’ overall satisfaction on the training was 91%. Learning level:the qualified rate of teaching plan presentation and teaching activity demonstration were both 100%. Behavior level:the score of giving a lecture and skills demonstration were both significantly higher than those before the training(P<0.05). Result level:one year after the training, the scores of core competence in each dimension and the scores of clinical teaching quality were all significantly higher than those before the training(P<0.05). Conclusion The training program has good effects and gains satisfaction of nursing instructors, which can be the reference for the standardized training of clinical nursing instructors.
