Self-concealment and its influencing factors of type 2 diabetes patients

Abstract:

Objective To explore the current status of self-concealment in patients with type 2 diabetes and to analyze its influencing factors. Methods A total of 168 patients with type 2 diabetes were investigated using the Self-Concealment Scale(SCS),Self-Esteem Scale(SES)and Social Support Rating Scale(SSRS). Results The self-concealment score of patients with type 2 diabetes was(35.15±4.61). Education level,living status,comorbidity,self-esteem,and social support were the main influencing factors of self-concealment in patients with type 2 diabetes,which could explain 49.7% of the total variation. Conclusion The self-concealment in patients with type 2 diabetes is at a moderately high level. Health workers should implement individualized interventions according to the situation of patients with type 2 diabetes,and strive to improve the level of self-esteem and social support of patients,thereby to reduce the level of self-concealment of patients.
