Practice of the narrative education in Mental and Psychological Care

Abstract:

Objective To explore the effects of narrative education in Mental and Psychological Care. Methods A total of 131 nursing undergraduates of grade 2016 in Southern Medical University were selected and assigned to the experimental group. Narrative education was used in this group. Another 146 nursing undergraduates in grade 2015 were selected and assigned to the control group. Routine education was used in the control group. At the end of the course,the assessment results of the two groups were compared and the satisfaction level of students in the experimental group were investigated. Results The scores of formative assessment,summative assessment and total evaluation in the experimental group were higher than those in the control group(P<0.001). 96.2% of the students in the experimental group were satisfied with the narrative education and teaching activities of the curriculum. The main achievements included three themes:the reduction of discrimin action,the enhancement of caring concept,and the improvement of autonomous learning and divergent thinking. Conclusion Narrative education can help students form the concept of caring,reduce the discrimin action of mental illness patients,cultivate their self-learning ability and divergent thinking,which can be further promoted.
