Abstract:

Objective To evaluate the effects of Frame-of-Reference Training in the evaluator training of Mini-clinical evaluation exercise for master of nursing specialist(MNS). Methods Purposive sampling was used to select 22 clinical teachers who was responsible for training of MNS in a tertiary hospital in Nanjing. We used Frame-of-Reference Training to train the evaluators. The evaluators were required to assess MNS with mini-clinical evaluation exercise scale and compared the rating accuracy, consistency and measures of dispersion of the two assessments. Results After training, there was no statistical differences between evaluators’ score and the standard score of assessment Ⅱ. Kendall’s W of assessment Ⅱ was 0.404 after training, and the score consistency of assessment Ⅱ was higher than that of assessment Ⅰ. The measures of dispersion tended to decrease, but the level of score consistency was still on a general level. Conclusion The Frame-of-Reference Training improves the rating accuracy and the score consistency of the evaluators in the mini-clinical evaluation exercise. However, the level of score consistency is still on a general level, suggesting that repeated and rigorous training is extremely important and necessary.
