Abstract: Objective To investigate the peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC )related venous thrombus of
tumor patients and to know the prognosis of those patients. Methods A cross-sectional survey was conducted
among 1 030 tumor patients admitted to Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center in May 2016 to investigate the
PICC related venous thrombus and to follow up their prognosis for 70 days. Results The first month of PICC insertion was the period with highest rate of PICC related venous thrombus and the rate was 5.4%(56/1 030).
Among those venous thrombus cases, asymptomatic thrombosis was the most common with rate of 76.8%(43/56).
Thirty-nine patients recovered after treatment. Conclusion Most of the PICC related venous thrombus are asymptomatic. Potential risk factors should be identified and treated in time to improve the prognosis of the tumor patients.
