Abstract: Objective To investigate the levels of empathy，cultural intelligence，and supportive communication of undergraduate nursing students， and to analyze their relationships. Methods A total of 262 undergraduate nursing students in a medical university were selected by convenience sampling and they were investigated by the Jefferson Scale of Empathy-health professionals，Cultural Intelligence Scale，and Supportive Communication Scale. Results The total scores of empathy，cultural intelligence and supportive communication were （108.12±14.69），（89.45±14.16）and （70.62±7.42） respectively. Empathy has positive correlation with cultural intelligence and supportive communication（r=0.328 and r=0.345 respectively，P<0.05）. The cultural intelligence has positive correlation with the suppor-tive communication （r=0.482，P<0.05）. Cultural intelligence played a part of mediating role between empathy and supportive communication，accounting for 65.3% of the total effects. Conclusion The scores of empathy，cultural intelligence and supportive communication are at the middle level in undergraduate nursing students. Cultural intel-ligence has partial mediation effect between empathy and supportive communication.
