Abstract:

Objective To translate the Spanish version of the Nurse Health Education Competence Instrument (I-CEpSE) into Chinese and to test its reliability and validity. Methods The Brislin two-person translation-back translation model was used to translate the original scale. After cross-cultural adaption and pilot-investigation,the Chinese version of I-CEpSE was finalized. The Chinese version of the I-CEpSE was used to evaluate 546 nurses in a tertiary hospital of Qingdao city. Results The Chinese version of the I-CEpSE kept 58 items of the original scale, and the S-CVI/Ave was 0.90. After exploratory factor analysis,a total of 3 common factors with characteristic roots ≥ 1 were extracted, and the cumulative variance contribution rate was 53.387%. The confirmatory factor analysis results showed that χ2/df=1.283,RMSEA=0.032,SRMR=0.047,IFI=0.952,TLI=0.950,CFI=0.951,and the scale model was basically adapted. The total Cronbach’s α coefficient of the Chinese version of the I-CEpSE was 0.958. The test-retest reliability was 0.954. Conclusion The Chinese version of I-CEpSE has good reliability and validity and can be used to evaluate nurses’ health education ability under the cultural background in China. With this scale, nurses’ own health education capabilities and learning needs can be identified.
