Professional socialization of nursing students:a scoping review

Abstract: Objective To review the researches related to the professional socialization of nursing students,and to explore the concepts,influencing factors,and major assessment tools of professional socialization among nursing students so as to facilitate the transformation of nursing students’ professional roles and promote the steady growth of the nursing workforce. Methods Following the scoping review writing framework proposed by Arksey,et al,a comprehensive search was conducted in databases including PubMed,Embase,Cochrane Library,CINAHL,Web of Science Core Collection,CNKI,Wanfang database,and VIP. The time limit was set from database’s establishment to January,2023. Studies related to professional socialization of nursing students were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Relevant information were extracted,summarized and analyzed for the included literature. Results A total of 17 articles were included,and scholars have conducted comprehensive researches on the professional socialization of nursing students,but there were still shortcomings. The concept has been increasingly improving with the supplementation of scholars from various countries,while lacked a systematic understanding in China. The influencing factors have been comprehensively explored,though lacked of objectivity. Also,the evaluation tools currently lacked of specificity. Conclusion The professional socialization of nursing students is crucial for the successful transition of nursing students’ professional roles,and Chinese scholars can conduct more in-depth discussions based on the nursing cultural background in China.
