Abstract:

Objective To summarize the best evidence of thirst nursing management after general anesthesia. Methods We searched papers related to thirst after general anesthesia in National Guideline Clearinghouse,JBI,Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network,National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence,Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario,VIP,Wanfang database,CNKI,UpToDate,PubMed,Web of Science,Embase,Cochrane Library. The quality of the literature was evaluated independently by 2 researchers, and the extracted evidence was graded. Results A total of 6 articles(3 guidelines,2 recommended practices, and 1 systematic review) were included. Twenty pieces of evidence were extracted including risk factors, thirst assessment, early prevention, symptom management, education and training. Conclusion The quality of the literature included in this study is generally relatively high. However, most of the evidence are foreign literatures. We suggest nursing staffs to translate the thirst nursing management scheme after general anesthesia into clinical practice according to the current situation of the department and the wishes of patients,so as to relieve the thirst sensation of patients.
