Abstract:

Objective To investigate the hospice care attitude and death attitude among emergency nurses and examine their relationship. Methods One hundred and fifty-three emergency nurses were recruited by convenience sampling and investigated by the Chinese version of Frommelt Attitude Toward Care of the Dying Scale(FATCODS)and Death Attitude Profile-Revised(DAP-R) questionnaire. Results The total score of hospice care attitude was(79.78±10.03). The subscale scores of DAP-R in descending orders were(3.15±0.79) for escape acceptance,(3.04±0.66)for approach acceptance,(2.92±0.65) for fear of death,(2.88±0.72) for death avoidance, and (2.16±0.58) for natural acceptance respectively. The hierarchical regression model showed that natural acceptance, death avoidance, and escape acceptance could explain 27.8% variance of hospice care attitude among emergency nurses. Conclusion The overall level of emergency nurses’ attitude of hospice care is not good and influenced by death attitude.
