Abstract:

Objective To understand the transfer team's perspectives on emergency and its influencing factors during inter-hospital transfer of high-risk newborns. Methods The semi-structured interviews with 22 team members from 3 provincial neonatal treatment centers were conducted. NVivo 11.0 software was used to analyze the data. Results Two themes and 11 corresponding sub-themes were developed:emergencies during inter-hospital transfer (mechanical failure, inadequate items preparation, inconsistency between the prognosis and the actual condition of the newborns, serious condition changes, and traffic accidents);risk factors of inter-hospital transfer (external factors, comprehensive quality, patient factors, instruments and equipment, manpower deployment, and occupational protection). Conclusion There are many emergencies and complex types of risks in inter-hospital transfer of high-risk neonates, and several factors need to be considered to establish a sound risk prevention strategy to ensure the safety of transfer.
