The level and influence factors of PICC related knowledge among nursing students after clinical practice

  • Online:2016-01-20

Abstract: Objective To investigate the level and influence factors of peripheral central venous catheter(PICC) related knowledge among nursing students after clinical practice. Methods Totally 160 nursing students after clinical practice were recruited by convenience sampling method. They were investigated using a self-designed questionnaire. Results The average score of PICC related knowledge was(64.87±15.59). 44(27.5%) students scored lower than 60 points,94(58.8%) and 22(13.8%) students scored ranged from 60 to 80 points and over 80 points, respectively. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that educational level, the number of practice departments involving PICC skills,PICC pathway infusion times, times of washing and sealing catheters, and the number of mistakes in PICC operation were influence factors of PICC related knowledge. Conclusion PICC related knowledge among nursing students after clinical practice is at medium level, and the relevant knowledge is not yet comprehensive. It is suggested to strengthen the training of PICC related knowledge and skills for nursing students,in order to improve their ability to handle problems in PICC nursing in clinical practice and guarantee the safety of nursing care.
