The evolution of the Nightingale Award criteria：implications for nursing education
Through the method of literature review，this study analyzed the century-long evolution of the Nightingale Award criteria from 1920 to 2023. It reveals that the criteria have expanded from a singular focus on the nursing field to encompass specialization and diversity，with the spiritual connotation extending from traditional dedication to a comprehensive embodiment of innovative capabilities and professional values. The implications of this transformation for nursing education are as following：to promote the spirit of Nightingale and cultivate nursing talents who possess both a spirit of dedication and innovative abilities；to advance the specialization and diversification of nursing education，thereby enhancing professional value；and to adhere to the principle of maintaining integrity while fostering innovation，thus promoting the sustainable development of nursing education.
