Abstract

Objective To investigate the current status of quality and safety competency among master of nursing specialist students and analyze its influencing factors. Methods From March 2023 to October 2023,a convenient sampling method was used to select 667 master of nursing specialist students from seven regions as survey participants. A general information questionnaire and the Chinese version of Quality and Safety Framed Clinical Evaluation for Nurse Practitioner Students Scale were used for the survey. Results A total of 639 valid questionnaires were collected, with an effective response rate of 95.8%. The overall score for quality and safety competency among the 639 master of nursing specialist students was(101.75±19.61) points. The lowest average score for the quality improvement dimension was(2.78±0.67) points, while the highest average score for the patient-centered care dimension was(3.15±0.79) points. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that gender, grade level, witnessing near-misses or nursing errors by others, personal experience with near-misses,participation in training on reporting adverse events, perceived necessity of cross-professional quality and safety education, duration of quality and safety education in the college, and duration of hospital quality and safety training were factors that influenced the quality and safety competency of master of nursing specialist students(P<0.05),which explained 53.8% of the total variation. Conclusion The quality and safety competency of master of nursing specialist students is at a moderate level and influenced by various factors. Standardized education on nursing quality and safety should be provided and the connection between college and clinical teaching content should be focused on to enhance their quality and safety competency.
