Meta-synthesis of qualitative research on maternal labor pain experience
Objective To systematically evaluate researches about the maternal labor pain experience and provide recommendations for effective management of labor pain. Methods PubMed、the Cochrane Library、Web of Science、Embase、PsyINFO、Scopus、CINAHL、CNKI、Wanfang Data and SinoMed were searched for qualitative studies on maternal labor pain experience from the establishment of database to Sep. 2022. The quality of the literature was evaluated using the Jonna Briggs Institute(JBI) Center for Evidence-Based Health Care Quality Assessment Criteria for Qualitative Research (2016),and the results were integrated using a pooled Meta-integration method. Results A total of eight articles were included, and 35 findings were extracted, which were summarized into ten new categories and integrated into three synthesized findings. Findings included that multidimensional experience and impact of labor pain;maternal coping with labor pain;maternal support needs faced with labor pain. Conclusion The intensity of pain experienced during childbirth varies greatly among individual women, and there are diverse coping methods. Therefore,in order to facilitate a better childbirth experience, women require relevant support during this process. Healthcare professionals should attach great importance to the pain experienced by women during childbirth, providing active support and encouragement to assist them in coping with pain, and improve their childbirth experience.
