Abstract

Objective To explore the effect of a comprehensive experimental course of high-simulation situational simulation for pain management among nurses. Methods Following the best practice standards of INACSL,a comprehensive experimental course of high-simulation situational simulation for pain management was developed based on the core competency model. A total of 57 nurses from a tertiary general hospital in Zhejiang Province were selected as participants for this training. The evaluation was carried out using Knowledge and Attitudes Survey Regarding Pain and the California Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory. Results The average number of correct answers on the questionnaire of pain management knowledge and attitude after training (26.61±2.86) was higher than that before training(21.77±3.19),which reached statistical significant(t=8.741,P<0.001). Also, the score of critical thinking ability after training(262.88±22.79) was higher than that before training(244.81±34.02),and the difference was significant statistically(t=4.283,P<0.001). Conclusion The comprehensive training of high-simulation situational simulation for pain management can improve the critical thinking ability and pain management knowledge and attitude of nurses. Meanwhile, the long-term effects and changes in nurses’ pain management practices still need to be further verified.
