Illness perception of patients with oral diseases：a scoping review

Abstract

Objective To describe and analyze the current research status of illness perception of patients with oral diseases. Methods PubMed，Scopus，Web of Science，Cochrane Library，CNKI，VIP，WanFang，SinoMed，and OpenGrey were searched from their inception to October 2021 and updated in March 2022. The included studies were summarized and analyzed. Results A total of 14 articles were included. Three observational studies reported on the impact of illness perception on treatment adherence and outcome，three cross-sectional studies addressed factors influencing illness perception，six articles reported on assessment tools related to illness perception（one of them also reported on the influencing factors），and three reported on an interventional study related to illness perception. Conclusion Currently，few researchers have focused on the role of illness perception in promoting individual health outcomes in patients with oral diseases，and future relevant studies could be conducted in China.
