Transfer team's perspectives on emergency and its influencing factors during inter-hospital transfer of high-risk newborns

Abstract

Objective To understand the transfer team's perspectives on emergency and its influencing factors during inter-hospital transfer of high-risk newborns. Methods The semi-structured interviews with 22 team members from 3 provincial neonatal treatment centers were conducted. NVivo 11.0 software was used to analyze the data. Results Two themes and 11 corresponding sub-themes were developed：emergencies during inter-hospital transfer （mechanical failure,inadequate items preparation,inconsistency between the prognosis and the actual condition of the newborns,serious condition changes,and traffic accidents）;risk factors of inter-hospital transfer （external factors,comprehensive quality,patient factors,instruments and equipment,manpower deployment,and occupational protection）. Conclusion There are many emergencies and complex types of risks in inter-hospital transfer of high-risk neonates,and several factors need to be considered to establish a sound risk prevention strategy to ensure the safety of transfer.
