Abstract

Objective To explore the mediating role of work engagement in the relationship between nurses’ self-worth and work well-being. Methods From March to June 2021,a total of 1 177 nurses in a tertiary hospital in Henan province were surveyed by the general information questionnaire, the Adult Self-worth Questionnaire, the Nurses’ Work Well-being Scale and the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale. AMOS 21.0 software was used to test the mediating relationships among work well-being,self-worth and work engagement. Results The overall score of work well-being was(83.63±12.19). Correlation analysis showed that work engagement was positively correlated with self-worth(r=0.564,P<0.001) and work well-being was positively correlated with self-worth(r=0.369,P<0.001). There was a positively correlation between work well-being and work engagement(r=0.411,P<0.001). The structural model showed that work engagement played a partial mediating role between nurses’ self-worth and work well-being,and the mediating effect value accounted for 49.77% of the total effects. Conclusion Nurses’ work well-being is in the middle level. Nurse managers can take effective measures to improve nurses’ sense of self-worth,increase work engagement and improve nurses’ work well-being.
