Abstract

Objective To explore the effects of mindfulness-based cancer recovery for patients with breast cancer during chemotherapy. Methods A total of 86 patients with breast cancer during chemotherapy in the Department of Breast Surgery of two general tertiary hospitals were selected by convenience sampling. These patients were randomly assigned to the experimental group or the control group by tossing a coin. Patients in the experimental group received eight-week mindfulness-based cancer recovery besides routine care while patients in the control group received routine care provided by hospitals. The Post-traumatic Growth Inventory(PTGI) and Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire(FFMQ) was used to evaluate the effects of mindfulness-based cancer recovery on patients. Results Before the intervention implementation, there were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in the score of PTGI and FFMQ(P>0.05). After the intervention implementation, the score of PTGI and FFMQ in the experimental group were higher than those in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion Mindfulness-based cancer recovery can effectively promote post-traumatic growth of breast cancer patients during chemotherapy and improve their mindfulness level.
